Post-Game: Capitals vs Rangers

The Washington Capitals remain undefeated in the past 12 games in regulation at Verizon Center beating the New York Rangers 3-1.

  • Washington played without Clark, Fedorov, or Morrisonn. Steckel, Fehr, and Tyler Sloan were inserted into the lineup.
  • Tom Poti scored his first goal of the season. First 'D' man to score since Sloan scored on October 25th.
  • The first two Capitals goals were reviewed, and upheld.
  • Tomas Fleischmann had ANOTHER great game again registering four shots on goal. He is also seeing extended time on the penalty kill.
  • At one point in the second period, the Capitals were beating the Rangers 19-5 in face-offs and 20-9 in shots.
  • One second after Joe Beninati said, "The Capitals have killed off 40 of the last 45 power plays..." , the Rangers scored a power play goal.
  • With 11 minutes left in the game, Nick Backstrom hustled back on 'D' to breakup a breakaway. He then skated all the way down to the Caps zone to get a semi-breakaway and scoring chance of his own.
  • Big ups to both goalies tonight. Johnny stopped 28/29 shots (only goal was a fluky deflection by Poti that re-directed the puck between the legs of Brent) including a Chris Drury penalty shot...And King Henrik proved why he is a top-3 goalie in the leauge by stopping 25/27 shots. He also had to deal with a few questionable no-calls on Capitals players (Semin) running into the goalie.
  • Speaking of Sascha: Semin took a slash with under 2:30 left in the game and New York pulled their goalie for a 6-4 advantage... When the penalty expired, he raced out of the box, got a hold of the puck and fired it almost blindly down the ice into the exact middle of the empty net. His 11 goals are second to Thomas Vanek's 12 for tops in the NHL.
  • Brent Johnson earned another start, and will be between the pipes for Monday night's nationally televised game against Olaf Kolzig and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
