Pre-Game: Capitals vs Rangers

The last time these two met, the Capitals rallied from four goals down and eventually won in overtime on Shaone Morrisonn scored his first goal of the year and his first since February 26.

That game was played three days after an embarrassing 7-1 thumping in Philly. Dating back to the final goal in the St. Louis win, the Caps had been outscored 12 to one halfway through the second period of the Rangers game... But Washington managed to turn it around and have won five in-a-row since the loss to Philadelphia.

  • Washington has won four in-a-row against the Rangers.
  • Nicklas Backstrom has been held scoreless in just four of the last 27 games. The Capitals are 19-7-1 in that stretch. Backstrom has two goals in 14 career games in January.
  • Mike Green has two game-winning goals in two of the past three games against the NYR. Caps are 18-5-3 when Green plays.
  • Brooks Laich needs to continue his play in front of the net to throw Henrik Lundqvist off his game. He has points in three of his past four against the Rangers and needs to establish himself early and often in the offensive zone.
