Pre-Game: Capitals vs Panthers

Thankfully, this will be the last Capitals game that will not be televised. So far, the Capitals are undefeated (yay 1-0!) when not televised this season. The Florida Panthers (9-11-3) will come into Verizon Center fresh off a 4-0 thumping of the New York Rangers at MSG on Sunday.

This is the first of six meetings between the division rivals, the Caps won the season series last year 4-3-1. Florida is led by all recent draft picks; David Booth (2004), Stephen Weiss (2001, 4th overall), Nathan Horton (2003, 3th overall), and Jay Bouwmeester (2002, 3nd overall) all have at least 13 points for the cellar-dwelling Panthers. Booth will be out with a shoulder injury, but the three others will be in action.

Goalie, Craig Anderson (4-1-3/1.87/.948/2 SO) will get the start tonight and is challenging vetern, Tomas Vokoun (5-10-0/3.01/.911/ 1 SO) for the starting job. Anderson is coming off his second shutout of the year and will get his 3rd career start against Washington, a team he has never beaten (0-3).

Other Notes:

  • Jose Theodore will start in net tonight. Theo is 9-8-3/2.43/9.20 in his career vs FLA. Jose had a 1.76 GAA on Tuesdays last year. That is .26 better than the next closest GAA (2.02 on Mondays).
  • This is the teams' first meeting since Washington beat Florida to clinch the divisional title in the 2007-2008 season finale.
  • Kenndal McArdle (2005, 20th overall) will make his NHL debut tonight, taking the spot of the injured David Booth. McArdle has compiled 10 points (3-7-10) with the Rochester Americans this season.
